UHN is one of Canada's largest acute care teaching health networks with more than 735 beds and over 7000 students from all health professions. UHN hospitals include: Toronto General, Toronto Western, Princess Margaret hospital and Toronto Rehab Institute. These hospitals are ranked among the world's leading providers of patient care and innovative research and teaching. UHN offers health care in 24 specialized programs including: cardiac sciences, neurosciences, oncology, primary, ambulatory and community care, transplantation and rehabilitation. Supervised Pastoral Education (SPE) students gain a wide range of experience across sites and programs, while delivering spiritual care to patients, family and staff.

At UHN, interprofessional education provides opportunities for students from all disciplines to learn side by side in a team-based approach to health care. Students gain a deeper appreciation for the interprofessional team and the role of heath care disciplines. SPE students will also have an opportunity to learn from a variety of supervisors through a shared teaching model.  This diversity, of both programs and supervisors, offers a rich learning environment that prepares student for a wide range of employment options.

UHN has a strong commitment, as an academic Health Sciences Centre, to an educational program in Spiritual Care under the auspices of the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC). SPE programs are offered at the Basic, Advanced and Supervisory levels, in a single unit or a year-long Residency format. The program strives to prepare students for registration in the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO), by linking competencies from both CASC and CRPO, and through theoretical and experiential learning opportunities. UHN has a strong commitment to preparing students for careers in Spiritual Care as regulated health care professionals.
