Mackenzie Health’s Commitment to Caring is a set of principles to guide everyone who works, volunteers, visits, or receives care at the hospital. Mackenzie Health is committed to providing a safe, caring, and inclusive environment where we:
Treat one another with compassion, kindness, courtesy, respect, and dignity
Recognize the unique role and contribution of each individual
Work together
Listen and communicate responsibly
Take responsibility for our actions
Act with integrity and fairness
Resolve differences and concerns in a sensitive and timely way
Spiritual Care Department
Mackenzie Health offers Spiritual Care Services to help patients and their families discover a sense of hope and peace through the sacred in their lives; either through the rites and rituals of their faith traditions or through those principles and life experiences that give meaning and purpose to them. Community clergy and lay people are involved in the hospital ministry through several programs. The Department is closely linked with the multicultural and ethics initiative of the hospital and the Volunteer program.
CPE Student Participation
Each student, in consultation with there supervisor, will chose a nursing unit to engage in spiritual care. Students will also work in the evening and weekends throughout the hospital. The full-time summer unit (twelve weeks) from May to July is five days per week from Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The evening duty on rotation with the fellow students will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. There is no overnight duty. Students are given the choice to pick times for their eight-hour shift on Saturdays or Sundays. Students are assigned to weekends on rotation with their peers. The extended program runs from mid-September to mid-March is two days a week, with the same time schedule and hospital wide support and opportunities.
