Philip Weaver is a Certified Spiritual Care Practitioner (2011) and Certified Spiritual Care Supervisor-Educator (2016) with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC).

He began his training as a CPE Supervisor with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education in Grand Rapids, Michigan following his graduation from Calvin Theological Seminary (1988, M. Div.).  He became a member of the Canadian Association for Pastoral Education upon his return to Canada in 1989 and supervised two extended units with the Canadian Institute for Spirituality and Aging while serving a parish in Huron County, Ontario.  In 1992 he moved to Thunder Bay, ON to take a position at Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital, a place he knew well from his days volunteering there as a high school student.  In 2003 he became the Pastoral Counsellor at Casey House Hospice in Toronto ON, and moved to Vancouver in 2007 to work at St. Paul’s Hospital (Providence Health Care) in the areas of HIV/AIDS, Palliative Care and General Surgery.  In 2011 he became a Specialist in Spiritual Care in CASC and re-activated his supervisory process.  After supervising a summer intensive unit, he was granted Associate Teaching Supervisor status that September.  The formal certification process to become a Teaching Supervisor was completed in 2016, although he humbly recognizes that his learning and development will be a life-long process.

Philip has also served on the BC Ministry of Health Spiritual Health Advisory Council for six years and helped draft the BC Framework for Spiritual Health.  He was the BC representative on the CASC Professional Practice Commission from 2012-2014, and during that time he chaired the Scope of Practice Working Group.  In 2014 he was elected as the Vice-President of CASC and became President in 2016.

He began employment at North York General Hospital in June 2017.
