A Catholic hospital founded in 1892 by the Sisters of St. Joseph to care for the sick and the poor of Toronto's inner city, St. Michael's Hospital has a long and proud tradition of caring and compassion.  Since that time, the hospital has preserved this commitment to compassion and excellence, while evolving into a centre for innovation in patient care, teaching and research.

St. Michael's Hospital serves a densely-populated and diverse catchment area, and is a major tertiary and quaternary referral centre for patients from across the province.  Specializing in heart and vascular disease, inner city health, trauma and neurosurgery, diabetes comprehensive care, neurology and musculoskeletal disorders, minimal access therapeutics and critical care the hospital has over 550 inpatient beds, extensive outpatient clinics, and is downtown Toronto's designated trauma centre for adults.

Fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, St. Michael's Hospital is recognized for excellence in teaching, and is a research leader in many areas including inner city health, cardiac gene therapy and trauma/critical care.
